Great news! The students of our first AWSEC-class in Bahir Dar are starting their businesses - and they simply don't stop to amaze us! Here are some examples of their ideas and the progress they made in transforming them into reality:
Habtu Kebede - who's ambition was filmmaking - recently travelled to Addis Ababa and visited a film-festival. He is now partnering with a leading African film director on a business venture to support the cinema world, he has also been invited to a post production training and to participate on a film set.
Alemayehu Brehanie is now ready to deploy hotel booking and front desk technology and has a live sales pipeline. He has also been hired as a consultant and is being paid more money than he has ever seen before.
Askal Azeze is creating a sales promotions company and has been hired by an IT firm and a publisher in Ethiopia on sales promotion activities.
Belainesh Genetu, a young girl who struggled in hand to mouth existence, is creating an e-security solution provider and will be selling (as of next week) anti virus technology and internet performance compression algorithms to the Ethiopian market.
And the list goes on and on...
The net impact of this wealth is being generated in the poorest areas of Ethiopia. The student entrepreneurs from this batch alone are generating nearly 400 jobs in areas where unemployment is at 95%.
