Travelling Theatre

Alchemy World Intends to launch a travelling theatre by the end of 2008, please read below and click on contact us to participate in resolving this abuse of human rights.

Theory

Alchemy World believes that theatre can act as a powerful social and cultural change agent.

Indigenous skilled actors would be hired to travel and carry out a road show.

The script, direction, stage setting, and music would need to be drawn up by theatre professionals, we seek the input of a leading London Theatre for this project.

Medical

The travelling theatre should carry a fully qualified doctor on staff available at all times, with an appropriate medical kit.

Database

Children would be catalogued, lo res-pictures would be taken of both mutilated and non mutilated girls. Consent would be sought by the parents where possible, bribed with giveaways.

This would become the worlds widest catalogue of FGM and its health consequences.

Once the theatre returns to the village after 1 year the same girls would be re-evaluated by the doctor. Percentage increase in mutilation recorded, or decrease. Health deterioration etc.

Practitioners or FGM would also be databased and recorded. They would be encouraged to change career and become paid evangelists against FGM.

Giveaways

Relevant giveaways that reinforce the message and fulfil a useful function will be provided at the villages. This will both help to generate a buzz and interest as well as acting as a reminder of the theatre and its message.

Plot

The plot needs to carry a clear strong message that FGM is not necessary, it is not written in any sacred book, and it does not render the women promiscuous, but that it instils happier healthier families.

For instance one such story could be a plot where there are twin girls, one escapes FGM marries and settles into a big happy family, the twin is a victim of FGM, she suffers agony, infections for many years, marries a bad bigoted man who loses his money, she dies at childbirth, the child is given to the sister. The sisters children and the orphan all remain unmutilated.

The message needs to settle deeply and strongly in the subconscious of the spectator. Appropriate use of music, lighting, props, script writing and direction will be necessary to achieve maximum impact.
